The Nez PerceThe Nez Perce
The Nez Perce Indians were known to be friendly and helpful to early explorers and traders. It wasn't until the Government attempted to force the Nez Perce into moving from their homeland that they began to war with the white man. In 1877, Chief Joseph lead his people on an incredible but tragic escape along the Clearwater River. He was finally forced to surrender when he made his famous speech and stated, "I will fight no more forever."
